This is a huge, stoneware butcher's bowl, with a very useful pouring lip/spout.
Marked "Charcuterie Elaborée à Partir de Porc Fermier Plein Air.""L'Héritier du Goût" all around the outside rim. This translates to "Cold meats from free range pigs reared in the open" "The heir of taste."

Originally used for the preparation and storage of terrines, it will add a touch of "French country" style to any kitchen.

In excellent condition, it has no chips or cracks. It is a genuine vintage item, so may have some slight, but very desirable, "hairline crackle" to the glaze and it has a couple of microscopic edge "nibbles", on the underside of the base (see last photo.) It has a small indentation in the rim (above the letter "C" in "Charcuterie) which has glaze over the top, so was present at manufacture before glazing occurred. There are a few tiny " air bubbles" in the lip, formed pre-firing, they are simply the "drying spots" caused in the formation of the lip, present at the "curing" stage of manufacture, not flaws.

It is large and heavy, weighing 1.6kgs/ 3.5 lbs.
It measures 28cms/ 11" diameter, at the rim (39.5cms/ 11¾" to the lip). It is 12.5cms/ 5" deep and 15.5cms/ 6" diameter, at the base.

The much older antique version of these "Tian" (must have) or "Gresale" Bowls would have been used for preparing cassoulet or meat based foods and kept in the bowl for preservation, in much the same way as traditional "confit" pots.

This more recent bowl is perfect for cake making mixtures, kneading bread or perfect as a French farmhouse table centrepiece for fruit / salad serving.

A thoughtful gift for anyone who loves home baking, why not combine it with some vintage wooden mixing spoons!

et voilà!
