A rare and collectible set of hand painted "Les Crudités" (Raw Vegetables) GIEN plates.
Perfect as starter/hors d'oeuvres/ entrée plates.
A genuine vintage French plate set.
Five different designs from "Les Adventures du Jardinier, Histoire en Six Assiettes" ("The Adventures of the Gardener, History in Six Plates") range.
They are 21cms/ 8¼" diameter and weigh 400gms / 14ozs each.
Each Plate has the "Gien France"mark and are marked ''Decor Garanti Inaltérable. Paint a Main (hand painted.) Cuisson à 1150c" on the undersides.
The plates are vintage white, with gorgeous illustrations for various "Crudités": L'Artichaut (Artichoke) - there are two plates with this design - Le Chou (Cabbage), Les Tomates (Tomatoes), Le Fenouil (Fennel) and Les Carottes (Carrots.)
These would plates would make an amazing kitchen wall display.
None of the plates have chips but all do have an ageing "hairline crackle" to the glazes, which is to be expected with the age of this set. The "crackle" covers most of the surface of the plates which, considering their age, does not in any way detract from their beauty or functionality; and in fact adds to the charm and authenticity of these gorgeous items. However the "crackle" is noticeable and there is some slight discoloration, so you will need to bear this in mind if you decide to purchase these lovely plates as they are in a vintage condition and have been priced to reflect this.
