A set of SIX mix and match confit bowls, in various sizes. Perfect for displaying in rustic farmhouse kitchens. Each basin is different, all are "two-tone" with glazed interiors and wide borders. A lovely range of autumnal shades, from "speckled chestnut" to "sepia" on grey and beige. The bowls are natural, unglazed ceramic, on the outside giving them a gorgeous "rustic country" feel. They are all perfectly clean and useable, some are dis-coloured and slightly stained from years of genuine use in French provincial kitchens, which is desirable for that "aged to perfection" patina! Altogether this set weighs approx. 2.6kgs/ 5.7 lbs. All in amazing condition, with no chips. They have a couple of gouges (nothing at all that effects the integrity) and the beginnings of ageing "hairline crackle" to the glazes, which is to be expected with the age of this set, this does not in any way detract from their beauty or functionality; and in fact adds to the charm and authenticity of these gorgeous items. The largest bowl is 17cms/ 6¾" diameter (at the rim) and 9cms/ 3½" deep. The smallest basin is 11.5cms/ 4½" diameter (at the rim) and 6cms/ 2¼" deep.
The much older antique versions of these "Tian" (must have) or "Gresale" Bowls would have been used for preparing sauces or puddings and kept in the bowl for preservation, in much the same way as traditional "confit" pots.
